Dayron Burney-Thorn, 17, was arrested by US Marshals in Germantown after leaping from a fourth-story window on Monday afternoon, Oct. 23, authorities said in a release.
He was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Investigators believe Burney-Thorn was part of the group that ambushed Nicholas Elizalde and four others outside a Roxborough High football scrimmage on Sept. 27, 2022.
Elizalde, of Havertown, died from his wounds, while the other students were hospitalized in stable condition.
Philadelphia police have released video that shows the gunmen lying in wait in a dark SUV before emerging to open fire at the group, but investigators have said they do not believe Elizalde was the intended target.
The shooters fled on foot and a $40,000 reward was offered for their capture.
Twenty-one-year-old Yaaseen Bivins, 15-year-old Troy Fletcher, 17-year-old Zyhied Jones, and 16-year-old Saleem Miller were all arrested last October and November in connection with the shooting.
Burney-Thorn was at large until a few months ago when Marshals "developed information (he) may be back in the Philadelphia area," authorities said.
He was tracked down to a home on the 200 block of West Walnut Lane early Monday and jumped from the window after Marshals surrounded the building, according to officials.
“Burney-Thorn’s capture sends a clear message that we never cease in our pursuit of bringing violent fugitives to justice," said Marshal Eric Gartner.
"Our thoughts remain with Meredith Elizalde, who lost her only son Nicholas in this tragic murder, and hope this last arrest can bring some closure to Nicolas’ classmates and teammates at Roxborough High School."
Burney-Thorn is also charged with a murder on the 600 block of N. 13th Street the day before the Roxborough High shooting on Sept. 26, 2022.
